Blacksburg: its top 7 runners by season-best Statistical Rating, with their places in the virtual meet
Movement since the previous board (data through Oct 10, 2026 · updated Oct 11, 2026): ▲ places gained, ▼ places lost, – same place; NEW not on that board’s top 10. A signed number beside the team average is its change in points since that board, leaving out this week’s scale move stated above. ◦ No new race by the team’s runners since that board. 1 team from that board’s top 10 is not on this one.
In each team’s runner list, each rating is the runner’s season best on the day, from any rated varsity race, and Place is the runner’s place in the virtual meet; the first five places score, and the sixth and seventh, in parentheses, displace.
The ranking is a virtual cross country meet. Its field is the top 30 teams by average, the mean season-best Statistical Rating of a team’s five best runners, shown to 0.1 point on 2026’s K (489.011 for boys and 492.687 for girls). Each team’s top seven runners take places by season-best rating, highest first. A team’s points are the sum of its five best places; its sixth and seventh runners take places but do not score, so they push other teams’ runners back. Lowest points rank first; a tie goes to the team whose sixth runner placed better (a team without one ranks below), then the higher average. A team needs at least five rated runners to be eligible and a top-30 average to be in the field; with fewer than seven it is marked thin (25 of 192 eligible teams for boys and 35 of 162 eligible teams for girls this season).
Rated varsity runners count, not only the verified runners on the Rankings. A runner with a verified Virginia profile counts. A runner with an unresolved profile counts only with at least one rated varsity race in Virginia that season. A runner with a verified profile from another state does not count. Each runner counts for the school they raced for most. Regional and national finals count for individuals only: NXR Southeast, the Champs, Foot Locker and Brooks South regionals, Nike Cross Nationals, Foot Locker Nationals, Brooks, RunningLane and HXN. Their races stay on the individual leaderboards, but a runner’s team value is their best race elsewhere, and a runner who ran only those meets counts for no team. 301 rated boys who raced in Virginia raced for a team whose linked runners disagree on school (104) or that matches no Virginia school record (197); 255 rated girls who raced in Virginia raced for a team whose linked runners disagree on school (84) or that matches no Virginia school record (171), so they count for no team and some teams’ depth is undercounted. Middle-school runners are left out. The virtual meet is scored from observed season bests; it is not a prediction of a real meet. How team rankings work
Provisional: the 2026 level can move as later meets are added. Partial 2026 season: 18 meets from Sep 4 to Oct 17, as of Oct 18, 2026. Lower-tier races stay in the fit but give no mark (a meet's boys races when no boy there rated above 170, its girls races when no girl rated above 100): all races of 4 more meets, and the boys races of 2 of the 18. Team rosters count every rated varsity runner who passes the roster guard: a verified Virginia profile, or a profile not yet verified with a rated race at a Virginia meet this season; a runner with another state's profile is left out. Not statewide coverage: a team's runners who ran none of these meets are not counted. A team is its MileSplit team, matched to its school when every runner of it seen in the 2022–25 data ran for that one school. A reviewed list decides evident mis-mappings: a team whose linked runners split over schools only by a transfer is mapped to its school, and a provider team of another school is not mapped to a Virginia school of a similar name. See the 18 meets counted on the 2026 meets page.
